Read the current official guidance first
NIFT publishes programme-specific admission requirements. Its 2026 admissions materials describe different selection processes for design and fashion technology programmes. Do not assume that every applicant takes the same test. Check the official admissions page and the current prospectus for your programme, category, eligibility, dates and assessment stages. This page is about drawing skills, not an application checklist.
Observation before decoration
Choose a shoe, bottle or folded cloth. Spend two minutes describing its proportions before drawing. Block the largest shapes, compare negative spaces and only then add seams, labels or folds. Decoration cannot repair an incorrect silhouette.
Communicate an idea in three frames
Sketch a person encountering a practical problem, trying a solution and using an improved object. Keep the viewpoint and important objects consistent. Ask someone to explain your sequence without reading a caption. Their interpretation shows whether your idea is clear.
A practice routine with purpose
Rotate observation, perspective and composition across three short sessions. Finish one exercise, note one weakness and repeat it with a specific change. Keep an idea notebook as well as a sketchbook. Your drawing should explain a thought rather than just fill a page.
Where NIDAL fits
NIDAL offers structured drawing foundations, guided practice and real mentor feedback. It is not a dedicated NIFT entrance-coaching programme. We do not claim NIFT affiliation, admission guarantees, mock-test coverage or verified exam results. Use official admissions information alongside your independent preparation.
Put it on paper
A small exercise. A useful start.
Draw the same everyday object from the front, side and above. Keep the proportions consistent, then sketch one useful redesign and explain who it helps.
